Why Do Tenants Trash Their Units?

Why Me??
One of the saddest things for a greedy landlord is to see his property trashed by a tenant. Most landlords care for their units as if they themselves were living there.
I found a kicked in door, split in half, with the door knob gone. Tons of garbage and detritus were lying about. A smelly old refrigerator was left behind for me, presumably, to haul away at great expense. Filth abounded in the kitchen and bathrooms of unmentionable grossness. Broken windows, missing and torn screens, bent and damaged blinds, and stained and ruined carpeting rounded out this sad state of affairs.
One probably should not be surprised by these findings. If you look at the turmoil in the lives of people, their lifestyle habits are a mirror of their personalities and state of mind. I can only imagine how pained and miserable these desperate souls must have been to have have left their "home" in such a shabby and sorry state. The doors to their souls were probably knocked down, the windows that open to their hearts were most likely broken, and the carpeting beneath their being was tattered, worn and stained.
I hope they don't destroy another unit. Mine "lived" and then "died."
